The first L&T®Ekoskola project has concluded
On May 29, with a convincing victory of Riga Elementary school “Pârdaugava”, has concluded the first L&T®Ekoskola project on the separated collection of paper.
During the project, which lasted for 7 weeks, supported by parents and pedagogues, the students managed to sort 134 423 kg of paper – office paper, newspapers and mixed paper, which was collected in the specially established L&T’s sorting points at the schools. The gathered paper will be transferred for a further processing to save more than two thousand trees and 4 300 tons of water.
Thirty six schools, i.e., 18506 pupils participated in this project and fought for the prizes for the school and individually. The first place by struggle took Riga Elementary school “Pârdaugava” with the amount of 45.655 kg of paper collected per student, the second place took Riga 75th Secondary school (25.014 kg of paper per student), and the third place took RigaSpecial primary school – development centre(18.740 kg of paper per student).
The event to award the winners was organized on May 29. The pupils were excited to participate in relays and quizzes, and demonstrated the knowledge obtained during the lectures on sorting of waste organized by L&T.
The most active schools were awarded the prize-money in the total amount of 500 lats, 100 tickets to Lîvu Aqua-Park and TIO ice-cream for each student of the best school.
The aim of the program L&T®Ekoskola is to facilitate awareness of the youth on the environment protection issues; therefore L&T plans to continue this program by organizing similar projects in the nearest future.
